DUBAI has grown exponentially over the last 20 plus years. It is home to internationally recognised icons such as the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, the world’s most luxurious hotel, the Burj Al Arab, the world’s largest manmade island, the Palm Jumeirah and of course the world’s largest shopping mall, the Dubai Mall.

Golf in Dubai was born in 1988, with the inception of the Emirates Golf Club, which hosted the first European Tour tournament outside of Europe in 1989. Every single year since then, the Omega Dubai Desert Classic has been hosted here, attracting world famous players such as Tiger Woods, Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia and the late Seve Ballesteros. The Omega Dubai Desert Classic was also Rory McIlroy’s first professional win on the European Tour. Dubai also hosts the final tournament on the European Tour’s Race to Dubai Calendar at the Jumeirah Golf Estates. With free admission, the DP World Tour Championships is a great tournament to attend, seeing the top 60 players in the Race to Dubai season battle it out on the challenging EARTH course. It is also the one of most expensive tournament in Dubai, with a prize fund of over $8 million up for grabs.

Abu Dhabi has three major golf courses, all of an international standard. The Abu Dhabi national course which is located in the grounds of the Westin Abu Dhabi golf resort and host to the HSBC Abu Dhabi Golf Championships; The Yas Links, which is a Scottish style links course on the ocean, and runs parallel to the Yas Marina Circuit; the Saadiyat Island Beach Golf Club, a Gary Player design, semi links located on the ocean and meandering in between the St Regis Saadiyat Island hotel.
