The definition of ultra rustic chic
Set to a dackdrop of the incredibly dramatic limsetone mountains of the Supramonte and with views across the lush green River Cedrino valley, Su Gologone, named after a nearby freshwater spring, is a feast for the eyes and the definition of ultra rustic chic.
Owner Giovanna is the inspiration behind all of the colourful nooks and snugs dotted throughout the white-washed property. Bold primary colours are mixed with interesting fabrics and ceramics as well as wonderful flora bursting with life throughout the property. Add to this the incredible array of food on offer and the views both up and down from its mountainside location and you have a truly unique offering.
The suckling pig, which you can see being cooked on spits in huge open fires, was definitely a highlight for me. So was watching the local bread being hand cooked at one of the other open-air, fairylight-lit courtyard restaurants. As is wine-tasting at dusk at the sweeping sofa area. And then there’s the hearty breakfast overlooking the pool… The list goes on. Come hungry and thirsty and ready for a feast, not just to please the stomach but also the eyes.
Once you’ve had your fill at one of the restaurants you can work off your meal hiking in the local mountains, hiring bikes or kayaks or even playing mini golf amongst the trees. If you’re looking for something a little less energetic then you can relax by the beautiful pool, attend a rooftop star gazing evening or perhaps try a craft workshop. There is so much on offer which makes this property a true ‘experience’ hotel.
And once you’re all experienced out you can retire to your equally unique room. Many have views over the valley or impressive mountain range and most have oversized baths on the balconies and four-poster beds. Some have fireplaces and the largest suite of all used to be the owner’s own art studio and hideaway. It was fully booked during my time at there but Madonna has stayed here so rest assured it’ll be stunning. We looked at lots of different rooms and couldn’t find two alike – wonderful! They all have their own unique twist put on them by Giovanna, who, with her incredible eye for colourful art, has helped the number of rooms grow little by little over the years after taking over from her mother. Her next projects include a wondrous spa area and a ‘secret’ garden. Her passion is undeniable. I’d love to return and just help with one of the projects, the whole area has a calming aura from which I didn’t want to leave.
